Title: Assistant Plant Manager FLSA Status: Exempt, Salary Location Hayward, California Pay Type: Bi-Weekly Reports To: Plant Manager Effective Date: 6/2020 General Position Summary: The Assistant Plant Manager will be responsible for providing support to the Plant Manager in the areas of quality, safety and environment (ERS), and lean/continuous improvement systems. This position requires daily involvement on the shop floor. Essential Functions: Provides support for quality issues and continuous improvement events. Provides support for A3 responses to on the job injuries. Performs assigned ERS tasks such as data entry for emissions and storm water reporting. Performs frequent quality and safety inspections and audits of operational procedures. Communicates importance of following safety rules to team members, and acts when unsafe procedures or safety violations occurs. Updates and maintains the document control for standard work and TPM. Coordinates team member trainings such as forklift and safety awareness. Coordinates projects around supporting production such as creating lead standard work, and housekeeping events. Facilitates problem-solving efforts across the plant. May audit shop floor procedures and report findings to management. Supervisory Responsibility: This position has no supervisory responsibilities. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Mastery of when, where, and how to apply lean tools (standard work, TPM, 6S, etc.). Must know and understand OSHA rules and their application to industrial environments. Needs understanding of environmental rules and regulations, especially Stormwater. Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Microsoft AX. Ability to design, update and audit plant procedures. Ability able to design and administer both classroom-style trainings and TWI-style trainings. Must understand, maintain, and improve document control systems effectively. Ability to demonstrate effective communication skills to all levels of the organization. Ability to oversee and facilitate continuous improvement project within the facility. Ability to work in various elements including outdoors. Ability to organize, facilitate, and work in cross-functioning teams. Ability to manage competing priorities and deliverables effectively. Ability to occasionally work off-shift as required to support plant goals. Ability to able to read, write, type and speak English. Ability to support plant manager with plant goals. Ability to thrive in a team oriented and collaborative environment where continuous improvement is highly valued. Working Environment: Plant conditions – loud noise, heat, cold, liquid waste, solid waste, and atmospheric (fumes and vapors) conditions. Also working around machinery.
