Location Ann Arbor, MI Expected pay rate $51.00 – $61.00 per hour Schedule 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday, scheduled between 8am – 5pm EST Assignment length Contract to hire Listing Date 11/16/2022 Job description Our client is helping a leader in autonomous vehicle technology, hire an adept Mechanical Engineer. In this role, you’ll take part in feature development, testing, validation, safety, quality, and production activities for autonomous vehicle systems. We’re seeking engineers motivated by making a complete working system, as you’ll understand and contribute in multiple areas. The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering and 1+ year of experience working on real-world automotive systems. As Mechanical Engineer, you will: Lead new features from concept to implementation, carrying a project across design, testing, quality, and production. Develop mechanical systems for self-driving vehicles related to vehicle drive-by-wire, sensor integration, and rider-facing features. Design and implement prototypes of complex parts of the full vehicle system. Evaluate sensors, actuators, and electrical and computer hardware interfaces for system compatibility. Design and build physical systems for testing, analysis, and deployment. Work with suppliers to outsource relevant pieces of projects. Participate in FMEA and other safety review activities. Participate in mechanical and/or electrical design reviews. Document and communicate designs to stakeholders. Requirements Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering 1+ year of experience working on real-world automotive systems Proficiency in mechanical design including FEA and material selection Proficient with 3D CAD software of mechanical components (Solidworks Preferred) proficiency in various manufacturing techniques, such as machining, sheet metal, wiring, molding, additive Proficient in rapid prototyping, 3-D printing technologies, and basic machining tools Ability to translate a design from prototype to production, including the creation of properly dimensioned drawings Systems-level thinking with cross-functional skills and experience Enthusiastic problem solver Excellent communication, documentation, and leadership skills Preferred Qualifications Master’s Degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering 3+ years of professional experience working on mechanical systems, real-world robotic or autonomous driving systems, or in-plant vehicle launch experience Participation and leadership on a SAE vehicle competition or FIRST Robotics Knowledge of automotive repair and maintenance Proficiency with the 3D Experience PDM platform Commitment: This is a full-time, contract-to-hire position based on-site in Ann Arbor, MI.
